What an ethics complaint addresses

An ethics complaint asks whether a REALTOR® member’s conduct violated one or more Articles of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics. It does not award money, cancel contracts, determine license status or provide legal damages.

Before filing

  • Identify the respondent and the conduct at issue.
  • Review the Code of Ethics and select the Article or rule involved.
  • Prepare a factual written narrative.
  • Gather relevant documents, correspondence and evidence.
  • Review applicable filing deadlines.

General process

Grievance review

A committee determines whether the allegations, if taken as true, could constitute a violation.
